The journey will be made by a ‘Maxus eDeliver 7’ from a FedExstation in Shah Alam to a FedEx facility at Changi Airport inSingapore covering a total distance of 406 kilometres. Theestimated reduction of tailpipe CO2 emission for this trialjourney is approximately 100 kilograms compared to diesel-poweredvans.
FedEx is using this trial as an initial assessment of theoperational effectiveness for future cross-border pick-up anddelivery operations. The insights gained will be pivotal in shapingthe future of FedEx operations, which will not only benefit theenvironment, but also help improve the efficiency of its fleet,while providing excellent service to its customers.
“Our efforts to reduce emissions throughout our business meanswe need to think strategically about all of our ground operations,not just last-mile delivery,” said Kawal Preet, president, AsiaPacific, Middle East and Africa region at FedEx. “This cross-bordertrial is a proof of concept that will help inform and advance ourfleet electrification program in the region, in line with ourcustomers’ desire for sustainable time-definite delivery.”
The trial marks an important milestone for FedEx, as the companyworks towards its goal to transform its entire global pickup anddelivery fleet to zero-emission electric vehicles by 2040 through aphased approach. In May 2023, FedEx added two EVs to its fleet inMalaysia for parcel pick-up and delivery operations within theKlang Valley.
