DHL Global Forwarding, the Deutsche Post DHL Group’s air andocean freight specialist, announced today that it is expanding itsForeign Trade Zone (FTZ) locations in the United States with theinauguration of its newest FTZ at New York’s JFK Airport.
FTZs are secure areas under U.S. Customs and Border Protection(CBP) supervision that are generally considered outside of theUnited States for customs purposes. FTZs are used for loading,unloading, handling, storing goods and for reshipping them by land,sea or air. Customers benefit with FTZs as they reduce, defer ormitigate the impact of tariffs and taxes. With the latest addition,DHL now offers FTZ capabilities in a total of seven locations,including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Miami, San Diego andLos Angeles, making DHL an operator of one of the broadest networksof general purpose trade facilities in the United States.
“Our ultimate goal is to support our customers withcomprehensive services, strategically located facilities and ourbroad FTZ footprint across the United States,” said David Goldberg,CEO, DHL Global Forwarding, U.S. “This newest location will furtherhelp customers minimize their duty exposure in an ever-changingCustoms landscape and support their future business growthobjectives.”
The FTZ expansion is part of the company’s response tocustomer needs to build comprehensive end-to-end solutions in anumber of industry sectors which include life sciences andhealthcare, chemicals and energy, technology, consumer retail,engineering and manufacturing, public sector and automotive. Theadded FTZ presence throughout the country is also geared towardsupporting customers in mitigating the effects of fluctuating tradescenarios facing companies with operations in the UnitedStates.

Threeadditional FTZ locations in El Paso, San Francisco and San Juan,Puerto Rico are planned for 2020.
